Story · Family memories

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 20, 2026

Story is a private journal for family photos and videos. It is not a social network: there is no feed, no followers, no profiles, and nothing you save is ever public. This page explains exactly what Story stores and why.

AT A GLANCE

Your memories are yours
Only you can see your memories. Nothing is shared with other users, and nothing is sold, rented or used for advertising.
Stored in your private cloud account
Your memories are uploaded to Story's private cloud storage, tied to your account alone, so they are safe if you lose your phone. Nobody at Story browses them.
No tracking
No location, contacts, device identifiers, usage analytics or crash reports. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.

What Story stores

Your account
You sign in with Sign in with Apple or an email address and password. Story keeps your email address (or the private relay address Apple gives you) and a random account ID so your memories can be tied to you and only you.
Your memories
The photos and videos you save, the captions you write or dictate, and the date each memory happened. These are uploaded to Story's private cloud storage so they are safe if you lose your phone and so you can get them back when you sign in again.
Your plan
Whether you are on the free plan or a paid storage plan. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple; Story never sees your card or payment details.

That is the complete list. Story does not collect location, contacts, device identifiers, usage analytics or crash reports, and there are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.

Permissions Story asks for

iPhone asks you first, and you can change these any time in Settings.

Camera
To take photos and videos straight into Story.
Photos
To import photos and videos you already have. You can share only selected items.
Microphone
To record sound with your videos and to dictate captions.

Where it lives

Your memories are stored with Supabase, our cloud database and storage provider, in the United States. Storage is private: every file is tied to your account, is served only through short-lived signed links, and can only be read when you are signed in. Nobody at Story browses your memories.

Only you can see your memories. Nothing is shared with other users, and nothing is sold, rented or used for advertising. We will only disclose data if the law requires it.

Voice captions and Face ID

If you dictate a caption, Story uses Apple's speech recognition. Your voice may be processed by Apple to turn it into text, under Apple's privacy policy. The audio is not stored by Story; only the resulting text is saved as your caption.

Turning on "Require Face ID" locks Story behind your device's biometrics. Face ID is handled entirely by iOS; Story never receives any biometric data.

Subscriptions

Paid storage plans are auto-renewing subscriptions sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and holds your billing details. You can manage or cancel in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions on your device.

Export and deletion

Both are in Story under Settings → Privacy commitment.

Export all memories
Downloads every photo and video to your device so you can save them anywhere.
Delete account and memories
Permanently deletes your account, every photo, video and caption, and removes Story from your Sign in with Apple list. This happens immediately and cannot be undone.

You can turn off camera, photo or microphone access any time in Settings › Story.

Children

Story is for adults managing their family's memories. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date above will change and the new version will be published here.
